My Edge was a Columbus engine, and my Nautilus is a Valencia 2.0 EcoBoost with no issues so far. A white 2X3 ish sticker just to the right of the coolant reservoir on the left of the engine states where the engine was made - "Columbus" for the Ohio engine or "VEP" for the Valencia engine. The problem seems to be with the Columbus Ohio built engines, and not the VEP or Valencia Spain built engines. If you wait too long after you first notice these symptoms, you may end up having to replace the whole engine. Took the Edge into the shop and had them remove and retool the cylinder head and put in new gaskets, now starts and runs perfect. The engine ran smooth after startup and did not overheat. I caught the leak when it first began as I noticed a rough start-up, followed by white steam coming from the exhaust at startup in 85 degree heat, indicating water in the cylinder burning off. I use only Mobil 1 synthetic 5W/30, which is why I think it lasted so long before the leak due to lower internal temperatures vs using natural oils. I have a 2017 Edge 2.0 EcoBoost that developed a cylinder head coolant leak into a cylinder at 123,500 miles. The way I drive, that will take a couple years, so at least if my engine does get killed by a coolant leak anytime soon, I'm covered.īut I wonder, how often do Ecoboosts die because of coolant leaks? And is there anything I can do to prevent such a thing from happening? Are there any early signs that it's about to happen? I bought an extended warranty that covers me up to 100k miles. And that turned out to be a beautiful tuxedo black 2014 Fusion SE with the luxury package and the dreaded 1.5L Ecoboost. How common are coolant leak issues in the Ecoboost I have a 2014 Fusion SE with the 1.5L Ecoboost engine. Well, my previous car was totaled a week before Christmas and suddenly I found myself in a hurry to buy something. Now I had browsed this sub a little before deciding I wanted a Fusion, and I had read a little about the coolant leak issues, so initially I was after a 2.5. So far I love it, haven't had an issue yet, and I plan to drive it as long as humanly possible.īut every time I browse this sub, I read a new story of a coolant leak killing an Ecoboost. I bought it right at New Year's with 78k miles, it's currently sitting at 80k. I have a 2014 Fusion SE with the 1.5L Ecoboost engine. Dave Guggisberg shows how to fix the most common and most misdiagnosed coolant leak on Ford Eco Boost Trucks.
